We have recently imported a stunning and low mileage 2003 Volkswagen Passat 4.0 W8 4-Motion Automatic finished in Metallic Black with Beige Leather. A superb example (grade 4 in Japan) that has covered only 63000 kms (at the time of writing) which equates to just 39000 miles with Japanese Service History, full bookpack and both remote keys present. It drives effortlessly with lots of torque and great traction courtesy of the AWD system. The fuel consumption is not bad either, averaging around 30 mpg on motorway runs and about 24 mpg locally, with a range of 400 miles from a full tank; quite good for a 275 bhp 8 cylinder petrol all wheel drive car. The specification is the highest I have seen on a Passat and includes electric front seats, heated seats front & rear, nappa leather, cruise control, xenon lights, ski-bag, esp, rear blind. It also has the rare option of the electric glass solar sunroof. This brilliant feature is engineered to blow hot cabin air out of the car when the roof panel is left in the tilt position when the car is parked, all powered by solar energy. A brand new W8 to this specification would have cost £36,000 in the UK. It has just had a service including engine oil change, pollen filter and transmission service and we have replaced the a/c compressor as part of our preparation. The tyres are currently 4 Bridgestone winter tyres with around 5mm of tread remaining. MOT'd to August 2019 with no advisories. The W8 engine is superb being fairly economical and with a great soundtrack. It is part of VW's 'W' family of modular engines which included the W12 units fitted to Bentley models. This model is sure to become collectable in the near future. During the 'Beast from The East' this car has been invaluable showing no signs of getting stuck or any loss of traction! Overall a great compact luxury car to use in all weather conditions. The W8 is supplied with 2 remote keys, full bookpack, a UK market sales brochure, a copy of the de-registration export certificate, Japanese Service History and copies of invoices for preparation and servicing work carried out by a VW specialist in the UK. As well as the benefits of being lower mileage and rust free examples, another advantage of buying a larger engine size Japanese import is you save on road tax. The reason is that cars imported from Japan that are over 10 years old are not taxed by the DVLA according to their CO2 emissions. They are instead charged a flat rate based on engine size, the same rates that you would pay on a pre 2001 registered car. Because of this a Japanese import W8 costs £255 a year to tax whereas if the W8 was an official UK market example it would cost £305 per year, so a saving of £50 per year. We have just imported a 2003 Volkswagen Lupo GTI 6 Speed in Silver from Japan, handpicked by ourselves. This example has covered 85000 miles and is a high grade (3.5) example. It is registered on a 2003/03 plate. We have completed all mechanical and servicing preparation which included replacing the battery, cambelt kit/water pump and a service replacing oil/filter and coolant. As is common on 6 speed versions of the GTI the 6th gear synchro hub and baulk rings have also been replaced. All the preparation work has been carried out by leading VAG indpendent specialist, Votex of Cheshire. A new set of Toyo Proxes tyres has also been fitted in the correct 205/45 size which is hard to obtain. Two keys are present, a remote key and a standard blade key. The overall condition of this car is superb inside and out with unmarked straight panels and aside from the current alloys (same size as the original Bathurst rims) and uprated Bilstein yellow dampers it is unmodified. The underside of the car is particularly tidy, helped of course by Japan's salt free roads.. The specification includes Air-Con, ABS, Electric Windows, Cupholders, Comfort Sports Seats, Airbags, Rear Headrests and remote central locking/immobiliser. If you have never driven a Lupo GTI before they are really good fun. Due to a low weight of just 1000 kgs and a Twin Cam 1.6 litre engine that produces 125 bhp they perform very strongly throughout the rev range and will pull from 30 mph in 5th like many cars would in 3rd! This engine and gearbox was only used in the Lupo GTI and its 200kg heavier Polo GTI cousin. Unlike the rest of the Lupo range the GTI used aluminium for the bonnet, front wings and doors, all of which are in superb condition with no dings. Thinner lighter glass was also used for the windscreen. Further differences over the standard Lupo models include a wider track leading to extended rear wheel arches and a different boot floor to accommodate the battery being moved to the rear of the car for improved weight distribution. The only panels shared with the regular Lupo would appear to be the tailgate and roof panel. All of which are significant changes that make a for a real modern classic.. Overall these pint sized GTI's are among the last proper hot hatches being light weight and normally aspirated, not requiring huge amounts of turbo power to shift ever increasing weight and complexity along! NB: Photos taken at The Sutton Hall near Macclesfield; a highly recommended countryside pub! Please don't hesitate to contact us on 01625 420739 / 07721 326875.
