We have just imported and registered a superb 1997 Toyota Century 5.0 V12 in Grey with lambswool interior.
For those who don't know what a Century is I would recommend viewing the programmes on youtube. It is essentially Japan's Rolls Royce with a level of quality and attention to detail is quite simply staggering, making many of Europe's luxury cars appear lacking.
The Toyota Century is the choice of car of Japanese heads of state, diplomats, politicians and company CEO's. The Century has been in production since 1967 across three different generations. The first generation was produced until 1997 when it was replaced by this second generation 280 bhp 5.0 V12 engine model, the only 12 cylinder engine to be offered by a Japanese manufacturer; Toyota really should have offered this engine in the Land Cruiser; just imagine that...!. The third generation has just been introduced in the last 12 months and uses a V8 hybrid engine. The Century has always been classed as an ultra luxury car that competes with Rolls Royce, Mercedes 600, ZIL and the top Cadillac's.
Our example has covered 190450 kms at the time of writing which equates to 118000 miles. It is finished in Rinpo Grey and has the wool interior which was the expensive upgrade over and above leather in the home market. There is a comprehensive inspection & service history covering 13 services. Also present is the full bookpack with manuals, export certificate and Japanese auction inspection report with a grade 3.5/B rating.
The overall condition is superb throughout with excellent paintwork, chrome and an interior that you'd expect from a well looked after vehicle. The underside like all of our Japanese imports is in better condition than UK cars a fraction of it's age.
As for specification, where do I start?! There is Air Suspension which is set for comfort not Nurburgring lap times, 4 speed automatic transmission, soft close rear doors and bootlid, the rear seats are fully electric and feature heating, massaging and forward/backwards/recline with electric headrests,, electric centre storage compartment, rear vanity mirrors, rear heating and stereo controls, electric front seats, air-con, abs, traction control. Also present is the original cassette walkman & headphones for rear seat passengers, unused toolkit and wool overmats.
The Century driving experience is all about comfort and refinement. Having owned many 7 series, S-Class, A8 and Jaguar X300 it is safe to say that the Toyota Century exceeds them all as a luxury car.
